Ken WIlber and Andrew Cohen

I have just noticied these two in the public arena.
I haven't read anything by either except for a talk in WIE that they held in Denver some time ago.
Some things they said were fairly obvious and would be to those with interest in sprituality and development.
Some things were absurd - God needing us to create the next future. (Cohen)
I just want to know what it is that these people are contributing to the world that has not yet been given.
Do we need more "distinctions" of "higher self" "spirit" "atman", etc. if most people have no idea what that is (maybe including the authors themselves?).
I haven't read a lot of the bible, but something I do know is about false prophets. And everywhere I look, I see people offering to heal, fix, lead, and teach. Each invents their own system...
What's the deal people? How do you know you're not confused beyond your wits?!

On the Map of Consciousness, I’ve seen Ken Wilber calibrated between 460 and 520 by various people.
Distinctions and such would appear to be very reminiscent of the 400s.
Maybe that provides some context?
Not confused…just much more analytical than is necessary, lol.
Can’t say I know anything about Cohen though..

Hahhaha. Perfect answer!
My mother looked at a photo of Wilber and said “hmm, looks like the type of guy lots of young girls fall for…the illusion of mystery covering up a self indulgent mind.”
Hey Katya and Rob, glad to see I'm not the only one creeped out by that wilbur guy! I agree that he seems to have this odd, packaged, re-branded spirituality that I can't help but feel are healthier in their original contexts.
I've heard some odd things come out of the people that follow the wilbur-practice, too; he seems to confuse terms with other concepts and kinda muddles the information-sphere.
I guess one good thing about money-making, marketed packages like this, is that they do seem to drum up interest. Hopefully people can break from these products after a bit, and start on their own journey and research?
I also don't know nothin' bout the Cohen guy, but i'll check'im oot!
there are two stands one can make:
1 - “dont judge” meaning, let them do as they do.
2 - dont be led by the blind.
most of us strivers want some peace of truth - with so many knowitalls its hard to discern.
so i send an aspiration prayer to the world:
“may all beings have clarity of sight, to discern what is true and what is false.
may we not fall wayward on our path to God.
may we inspire one another through love and compassion.”
ok…
i hope that works!
:)
I think the most important thing for a Truth seeker is to just stay focused on God…
As long as that focus on God persists, every teaching; every encounter; every descision, will only bring us closer to total realization.
Without that focus on God, the focus tends to fall on the teaching, or the teacher, or the sensation…and in such cases, we can be led astray quite easily.
Beautiful prayer, Katya!

Its amazing, reading what you wrote, I see myself some years ago - why i suffered over some teaching, some teacher…wrong focal point.
I get now why we suffer…in this life, in others…to know what it feels like, to develop compassion and assimilation with others in our tribe.
thanks Rob,
Katya

i like the idea of staying focused on god
that may be the most reliable method there could ever be
at the same time many people may not be at that level
im sort of sceptical of wilbur myself
but i dont jump to conclusions
andrew cohen on the other hand i consider a truly great being
but that doesnt mean that i still dont jump to conclusions
sometimes there is a glut of information
and this can apply to spirituality and other things
but in the field behind my house there are all these wildflowers
theyre all different colors and have distinctive shapes
i dont see why we need so many
you can only look at one at a time
and shouldnt everything be the same color
all flowers the same color
wouldnt that be more beautiful
and i think we only need one person one being
whats the point in all these variations
we should all think the same and act the same and look the same
but god has created this glut
and now i get to
i mean have to
sort thru it
yes im a big fat smartass
but i dont care if you dont or even if you do
as long as the point hits home
ill present it any way you like
very resultoriented
not at all bothered about your ego
can you not feel this tremendous love
that is willing to kick you in the ass to make you free
and happily take the consequences because there are none
its better to be authentic than popular
and that prayer you offered katya
it is granted
love
Rasthwani, I just saw this…
Your lovely flowers are all different, dont you know?
If the shoe fits, go for it. If Andrew fits, go for it. But the question was not of identicalism, the question was of what they're saying, what the message is.
So what's the message?
