You pay for Mediocrity

Posted on Jan 7th, 2007 by Katya : The waker Katya

My grandfather was in love with Germans. Mind you he was a Russian-born (like myself) who fought against the Nazi's durring ZE VAR.

But he was also a dissident with a PhD in Engineering, whose parents were shot by the Russian revolutionaries when he was 15. Yeah, take THAT karma!

He always said: "The Germans do it right the first time." I don't know if that's true anymore, but I have learned to respect their craftsmanship.

This was a man who never really got along with bosses or any "authority" types, much like his beloved grand daughter, nor did he have much respect for anyone in particular. Only the most intelligent and sensible beings.

I'm not saying its the way to live a life, I don't even know how I went down the road of writing this blog, but feels like the past few posts I've written have been very direct, like arrows, and this one, well, it might be more emotional even where its dealing with life's ebbs.

Mediocrity sucks. It has sucked for me, and I have looked it in the face only to say "Kat, get off your a$$, and get going."

I think it will be soon time for me to take a new leap, to new heights, to new levels in career as well as my awareness. I already feel very different, and my world is reflecting it.

In the new year, I am learning patience and more more more patience, and I intend to learn something from each of you even if its how to boil eggs...

Namaste,
Katya

I am thrilled to be here to serve as witness to the leaps and bounds you will make in the new year.

Actually, your speaking of leaps reminded me of one of my favorite movie/documentary/video/music/new media pieces of art of the past few years, a project called 1 Giant Leap.  If you haven't had a chance to see it, do.  It just might give you the inspiration to jump even higher, and give you dreams of ever-broadening consciousness.

The DVD is available in most decent video stores and for rent on Netflix.  Check it out when you have a little time.  The fantastic music is also available through any decent music retailer or check it out online at Calabash Music.

Keep reaching Katya, and thanks for being here…

Kat,   I call it “sherman inchinerring”.  Five V W's later I too still marvel at their craftsmanship. Not every post has to be instructional or ha-ha.  The ebb side is as much you as the flow, just more vulnerable. And we can all learn from vulnerablity.   Boil water, carefully place eggs in water for three to four minutes for soft boiled and probably ten to twelve for hard boiled. How do you expect to catch a good man without cooking skills?

My good man asked me to boil him some eggs for the potato salad he was making. I did, putting the eggs in the water. I walked back to the boiling water, 2 eggs did that half-explosion thing where parts of the eggs seeped through and hardened ontop of the egg. I turned it off, feeling like an idiot or thinking “did THAT much time pass?”

When inspected…the other 4 were under-cooked!

Imagine…the stupidest woman in the planet!

However i suspect the two eggs were broken…

I'm much better at thought borscht. :)

It's like getting into a hot bath.  Slooowly. Don't just plop them. Lower them with pasta tongs if you have them. They could have been thin shelled.  What is thought borscht?

Borscht is that traditional red Russian beet soup.

I think I just acknowledged that I have no patience for food - odd cus I enjoy eating it - because I plopped those eggs right in!

I think I was told just yesterday that I have no patience at all, whether for cooking or anything else. Its probably true. Its annoying, and I wish I could just learn patience already!

And in a sense, I have paid for my mediocrity right THERE. My impatience broke them eggs and I ended up feeding my man half cooked eggs when all he wanted was a hard boiled one!

Talk about mediocrity…

Well Ron, I thank you very much for helping me see that.
